“FedEx’s surprise move signals that the No. 2 U.S. courier will bank on smaller e-commerce customers that lack Amazon’s bargaining power for big volume discounts.”

“Google has now halted its data-center automation software responsible for rescheduling jobs during maintenance work”

“Music publishers are seeking damages of $150 million, saying the company used more than 1,000 songs in its workout videos without a license.”

“Alphabet executives have been pushing U.S. officials to exempt it from the current ban exports to Huawei, warning that security could be at risk if it is unable to update its android operating system on Huawei smartphones,”

A potentially material change for SEO

Facebook is also planning physical ATM-like machines where users can buy the currency”

I never knew

“The co-chief executive officer of Salesforce.com Inc., which makes America’s dominant sales-tracking software, puts a lot of faith in his gut”

“As of March, Google worked with roughly 121,000 temps and contractors around the world, compared with 102,000 full-time employees”

Many have tried to make this easy.  Gmail may be the first to do it.

Fast.

“The power of Amazon Textract is that it accurately extracts text and structured data from virtually any document with no machine learning experience required”

Monetizing Hadoop seems to be harder than planned.

Perhaps minor, but a change from the historical use-agnostic perspective of most software vendors

A good quarter, but lowered guidance.

Incredible gesture by the head of the top PE firm buying SaaS companies.

The world, and the Cloud, is very interconnected.

Becoming a bigger and bigger issue

You can’t do this, folks.

Huh.

Woah.  This is getting beyond serious.

”According to CEO Kristo Käärmann, TransferWise was able to pursue an all-secondary round of this size because it’s been profitable for two and a half years.“

I’m surprised.

How to grow faster, now.  In the early-ish days.

We’re quickly approaching our second ever SaaStr Europa, and this time we’ll have 2 full days, with double networking, a stellar lineup of SaaS all-star speakers and of course, the best Happy Hours. With only 100 tickets left, there’s limited space to join the best of the best on 12-13 June in the heart of Paris, so if you’ve been considering attending SaaStr Europa, now’s your chance to snag one of the very last tickets.  In true SaaStr fashion, we’re scaling up the mentoring this time and making it easier for you to find your tribe. We’ve held Braindates, peer-to-peer mentoring sessions, at two consecutive Annuals, and last year’s inaugural Europa, and every single time it’s been a smash hit with our community. So guess what? Not only are we bringing them back, but we’re making them better than ever!  Now there are three ways you can Continue reading "Meet a Mentor or VC with Braindates at SaaSt Europa"

Go long.

Epic.

“The founder of the Chinese telecoms equipment firm Huawei would “shut the company down” if he was asked by the country’s communist regime to eavesdrop on mobile phone calls“

“The company today has amassed more than 20 million job listings — up from a mere 300,000  five years ago”

It’s tough to get too annoyed at the guy who’s given you a grand total of $10.5 billion.”

“It has 1000 employees, no headquarters and everyone works remotely, even the CEO”

Not a surprise to me.

So Microsoft got a very good deal at $2.5 billion.

Worse than I thought.

“The sham began in February, when an unknown user with a Chinese IP address and fake phone number side-stepped Zillow’s security measures and toyed with the sale prices displayed on the mansion’s listing.”

“While the Bay Area didn’t win Amazon’s official “HQ2,” it already has the second largest concentration of technical employees outside the company’s Seattle headquarters.”

Who always wins? AWS: -> “Slack disclosed that it signed a new five-year deal with AWS with an annual commitment to spend a minimum of $50 million on cloud services. ”

“Instead of saying the same thing everyone else was already saying ad nauseum—”It’s easy to use! It’s a reliable product!”—the team counted on third party validation to rise up above the competition.”

Big Companies will pay you a lot of money

Wow, $260m valuation.

Wow. “The campus has a lake, its own tram system, and enough room to accommodate up to 25,000 employees.”

Apple is now paying more than it did before the lawsuit, apparently.

“Also, small enterprises are not well served by US companies with their high cost structures. It doesn’t make sense for them to sell to a small customer in Prague. We can do that well.“

“Despite his low-key appearance Vembu owns 88 per cent of Zoho along with his family”

“Amazon China was a distant seventh place, with a paltry 0.7 percent share.”

“A 600m deal puts a spotlight on the shadowy world of cyberwarfare”

When it’s broken, it’s broken. The 10 key warning signs.

Woah, the cloud is on fire!
